Synology’s announcement of the release of PAS7700 earlier this year was met with widespread enthusiasm, and with good reason: Their incorporation of NVMe storage meant a vastly improved, high-speed solution for the needs of VFX studios.

This latest offering, which includes up to 48 NVMe SSD bays (supporting over 1 Petabyte with an expansion chassis), represents a sea change in ultra-fast, heavy-metal, high-performance storage architecture. The unit can also be used as a superfast, large caching tier for dynamic file-based caching for studios' most active projects and shots. Keeping the data you need on your fastest storage pool while keeping dormant projects on a more affordable but slower spinning HDD tier.

“[W]e've engineered PAS7700 to deliver ultra-high performance at a price point previously unseen in the enterprise storage market,” said Kenneth Hsu, Director of Synology’s System Group.

The incorporation of NVMe bolsters Synology’s previously existing functionality with high-speed transfer rates, making it an ideal solution for resource-intensive and demanding environments, particularly within the VFX industry.
