Iodyne’s Pro Data has become a leading local storage solution for VFX studios and production teams; its external storage systems have been a gold standard for high transfer speeds, security, and overall reliability.

One long-standing omission for Pro Data has finally been addressed: Previous versions didn’t offer the same features across macOS, Windows, and Linux. The latest software update to v1.6 addresses this by adding a full feature set to Windows and driver/command-line support to Linux.

What does this mean for users?

According to Iodine’s press release, two of the biggest changes for cross-platform users are Multi-Reader Sharing, meaning multiple systems are able to access the same storage at the same time, and Storage Handoff, which allows projects to be transferred between systems and platforms.

“Cross-platform support means you can run each application on the platform it was built for—VFX on Linux, broadcast tools on Windows, finishing on Mac—while keeping your media in place and accessible,” stated the announcement.
